December is off to a strong start on the Winter Park Chain. While we haven’t had any major cold fronts yet, the recent cool snaps have dropped the water temperature just enough to ignite the bass bite. Artificial lures like swimbaits, trick worms, and Senkos are producing steady action, and—no surprise—live shiners continue to draw the biggest fish of the month.

As water temps slide into their winter pattern, bass are beginning their transition into staging areas. Look for fish stacking in deeper cuts just outside the shallow grass lines and sandy banks where they’ll eventually push up to spawn. This shift has created some excellent opportunities for both numbers and size.

The photos above are from the Caldwell family, who absolutely put the smackdown on some beautiful Winter Park bass during their recent half-day trip. A great preview of the quality we expect to see as we move deeper into the season.
If December is any indication, the winter bite is shaping up to be one of the best in years.
