As we wrap up May, bass fishing across Central Florida continues to be strong. Water temperatures have climbed into the low 80s and we’re starting to see fish settle into their early summer patterns. The best action has been coming during the morning hours, with bass feeding aggressively around grass lines, hydrilla and other shallow cover before the heat of the day sets in.
Summer Patterns Are Starting to Take Shape
Topwater fishing has produced some exciting strikes early, while anglers throwing artificial lures have continued to find success with soft plastics, chatterbaits and swimbaits around vegetation edges and deeper grass lines. Many of the bigger bass are beginning to position around the thickest cover available, making patience and presentation increasingly important as summer approaches. Schools of bass are still being found in some areas, creating opportunities for steady action and multiple fish catches when the bite turns on. As always, location and timing remain key as fish continue transitioning from their spring patterns into summer routines.
Shiners Continue to Produce
For anglers looking to maximize their chances at both numbers and trophy bass, live wild shiners remain the top producer. We’re continuing to see solid action with opportunities at quality fish mixed in throughout the trip. With summer just around the corner, now is a great time to get on the water. The early morning bite has been productive, the weather has been cooperative and Central Florida’s largemouth bass are settling into some of their most consistent patterns of the year.
