Summer is officially settling into Central Florida, and the bass fishing has remained productive for anglers willing to get an early start. One of the biggest patterns we’re seeing right now is an increase in schooling activity, with both baitfish and bass grouping up over deeper water. When you find the schools, the action can be fast and steady.
Artificial Lures Producing High Numbers
Artificial anglers have been enjoying plenty of action, with catches ranging from 20 to 30 bass on productive trips. Flukes, shaky heads, swimbaits and other finesse presentations have all been producing consistent results. Light line and natural presentations have been especially effective when targeting schooling fish in deeper water.
Many of these bass are actively feeding, creating opportunities for multiple catches once a school is located. Anglers covering water and staying mobile are finding the most success.
Wild Shiners Still Catching the Biggest Bass
While artificial lures are generating plenty of bites, live wild shiners continue to produce the biggest fish. Anglers targeting trophy largemouth bass are still finding that shiners offer the best opportunity to connect with some of Central Florida’s largest bass.
As temperatures continue to climb, the key for both artificial and live bait anglers is getting on the water early. The morning bite has been the most productive part of the day, allowing anglers to take advantage of active fish before the summer heat settles in.
